On the Podium...
The
Director:
Dr. Perry Holbrook is currently in his tenth year at Walton
High School. During his tenure, orchestra enrollment has increased from 135 to
237 string students. Honors and Awards highlights of the past ten years include
two tours of Europe, two performances at the Midwest Clinic, and three
performances at the Georgia Music Educators Assoaciation Convention.
Dr. Holbrook holds the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree
from the University of Minnesota, the Master of Music degree from Arizona State
University, and the Bachelor of Music degree from Wichita State University.
Professional affiliations and memberships include: ASTA, MENC, GMEA, and the
Atlanta Federation of Musicians, Local 148-462.
Dr. Holbrook is active as a guest conductor having
conducted honor groups in Lexington South Carolina, Plano Texas, and Houston
Texas during the past two years. In 2007, he was the featured clinician at the
Texas Music Educators Association Convention, presenting a series of five
clinics in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Holbrook has presented additional clinics at
the 2010 and 2006 Georgia Music Educators Convention, 2009 and 2004 National
ASTA Conventions, the 2006 Midwest Clinic, and the 2005 Texas Music Educators
Association Convention. As an educator, he holds the AP Music certification and
was named the S.T.A.R. teacher of Walton High School in 2004. In addition to
orchestra, Dr. Holbrook teaches two academic classes, AP Music Theory and Music
History. Music Theory is a brand new course offering.
Dr. Holbrook lives in Marietta, Georgia with his wife Chrissy, a middle school
band director, and their daughter Bailey, a thirteen-year-old cellist. In his
free time he can usually be found on a tennis court somewhere.

The Assistant Director:
Sara
Duncan is in her second year as Assistant Director of Orchestras at Walton High
School in Marietta, Georgia. As a graduate of Walton, Ms. Duncan is proud to be
teaching at her alma mater. Ms. Duncan’s prior teaching experiences include
Barber Middle School in Cobb County and West Laboratory Elementary in Miami-Dade
County, Florida. Additionally, she was the graduate teaching assistant at the
University of Miami and taught undergraduate string techniques. In the summers,
Ms. Duncan has been involved with the Carolina Summer Music Conservatory Camp
and Walton High School Orchestra Camp.
Ms.
Duncan holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of South
Carolina and Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Miami
with cello as her primary instrument. She presented a session at the Florida
Music Educators Association Conference in 2009, and presided over sessions at
American String Teacher Association conferences in 2008 and 2009. Her thesis
research, “Assessment Practices of String Teachers” won first prize at the
University of Miami Research Symposium. Ms. Duncan is a member of MENC, GMEA,
ASTA, Pi Kappa Lambda, and has been recognized as a Presser Scholar.
Ms.
Duncan is engaged to William Grimes, a middle school band director. In her free
time, she enjoys reading and golfing.
