On the Podium...
The
Director:
Dr. Perry Holbrook is
currently in his ninth year at Walton High School. During his tenure, orchestra
enrollment has increased from 135 to 210 string students. The orchestra has
performed all over the world and has achieved many
honors and awards.
Dr. Holbrook holds the
Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, the Master of
Music degree from Arizona State University, and the Bachelor of Music degree
from Wichita State University. Professional affiliations and memberships
include: ASTA, MENC, GMEA, and the Atlanta Federation of Musicians, Local
148-462.
Dr. Holbrook is a
frequent adjudicator and clinician. This year he will guest conduct an honor
group in South Carolina as well as present a clinic at the 2010 Georgia Music
Educators Convention.
Dr. Holbrook is active
as a guest conductor having conducted honor groups in Plano, Texas and Houston,
Texas during the past two years. In 2007, he was the featured clinician at the
Texas Music Educators Association Convention, presenting a series of five
clinics in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Holbrook has presented additional clinics at
the 2009 and 2004 National ASTA Conventions, the 2006 Midwest Clinic, the 2006
Georgia Music Educators Convention, and the 2005 Texas Music Educators
Association Convention. As an educator, he holds the AP Music certification and
was named the S.T.A.R. teacher of Walton High School in 2004.
Dr. Holbrook lives in
Marietta, Georgia with his wife Chrissy, a middle school band director, and
their daughter Bailey, a twelve-year-old cellist. In his free time he can
usually be found on a tennis court somewhere.
The Assistant Director:
Rebecca Dosch has been Assistant Director of
Orchestras at Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia since 2003. Her prior
teaching experiences include Dickerson and J.J. Daniell Middle Schools in Cobb
County and Sandy Springs Middle School and Spalding Drive Elementary School in
Fulton County, Georgia. Under her direction, all groups consistently earn
superior and excellent ratings at district orchestra festivals.
Highlights of her career are numerous. In 2005, Walton
High School and Dickerson Middle School were both selected to perform at the
prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. Ms. Dosch is one of
the few directors given the honor to conduct two groups at Midwest within the
same year.
Ms. Dosch holds a Bachelor of Music in Music
Education from the University of South Carolina and recently earned a Master’s
Degree in Technology in Education. As a cellist, she has continued to pursue
musical performances with several professional venues. She often plays with
Tara Winds, which has played at the Midwest Clinic and Georgia Music Educators
Convention, and the Georgia Philharmonic. Her professional credits include
working as a counselor at the Georgia American String Teachers Association camp
and at the Walton High School Orchestra Camp. Furthermore, Ms. Dosch has
conducted groups internationally through American Music Abroad.
Ms. Dosch is a member of MENC, GMEA, and
ASTA. She has served as state secretary for the American String Teachers
Association and district representative for GMEA. Originally from the
Washington D.C. area, Ms. Dosch enjoys traveling, hiking, mountain biking, and
kayaking.
